Drillstring Dynamics Calculator (DDC) is a PC application to assist the user in extending the working life of the drill stem by predicting the rotary drilling speeds that cause resonance - i.e. high amplitude vibration - which could lead to a fatigue failure in the form of either a "Washout" or a "Twist-off" DDC is a versatile tool that has many uses, including:
  • Vibration Prediction.
    • Predict the drill stem vibration so that the "critical" rotary drilling speed(s) that could lead to a fatigue failure can be avoided.
  • Low ROP and Bit Life

Drill stem vibration may result in non-optimal drilling conditions, which could result in inefficient drill bit cutting and this could affect ROP - and damage the drill bit (see Figure 3). Low ROP and additional bit trips increase capital costs (CAPEX) of the well. Predicting drill stem vibration and drilling at "safe" drilling speeds could increase both ROP and bit life.

  • Failure Investigation.
    • Post-mortem analysis of drillstring failures. Analyse the vibration at the location of the failure to determine if vibration was a contributing factor.
  • MWD Tool Protection.
    • Perform a vibration analysis at the location of the MWD tool within the drill stem to ascertain levels of vibration that could occur during drilling to ensure that the tool is not damaged.
  • Shock Sub Placement.
    • Complement the manufacturer's recommendations on shock sub placement by calculating drill stem vibration. Where possible, try the range of recommended locations and spring stiffness rating to determine optimum shock sub stiffness and its placement within the BHA.
  • Dynamic MWD Data Interpretation.
    • The prediction of drill stem vibration may assist with the interpretation of measured downhole vibration data. DDC predicts the natural frequencies of the drill stem, and therefore, this data may assist with the analysis of the measured data.
  • Hole Problems
    • Vibration may be a contributing factor to either hole enlargement or wellbore spiralling. The prediction of drill stem vibration may assist with explaining why hole problems have occurred

Petroleum Engineering Software for Production Applications.

Petroleum Toolbox is an integrated Windows-based software poackage designed to meet the needs of petroleum and production engineers. Petroleum Toolbox contains 10 functional modules all integrated with one easy-to-use interface.

The modules include:

Nodal Analysis - A multiphase pipe flow program providing tubing and flowline calculations and the ability to perform perforation / completion analysis. Also provides most multiphase flow calculations, together with back-oil fluid property correlation's used in the industry today. The program is tightly coupled with Excel, and allows multiple tubing strings and flowlines to be modeled, and both inflow, outflow and inflow/outflow calculations to be performed.

Well Test Analysis Program - Designed specifically to make pressue transient diagnostic tests easier.
Features free format data import, interactive estimates of reservoir parameters, deliverability analysis and gradient survey graphing. Users can generate log-log or semi log analysis plots and estimate well and inflow/outflow reservoir properties.

Black Oil PVT - Uses as input the oil, gas and water gravities at Standard Temperature (STP) or
Stock-Tank conditions; as well as the Gas-Oil and Water-Oil Ratios. These data can be saved to file and retrieved for convenience. Also calculates all the main black-oil properties of your fluid in table and graph format.

Economic Projections - Contains MICA, an easy-to-use petroleum economic evaluation software package.
  • Analyze up to five streams of production history using Arps decline curve equations
  • Model each stream of your production forecast with any number of decline segments.
  • Adjust each decline curve segment interactively
  • Run Economics cased upon monthly calculations
  • Set up multiple default data profiles
  • Calculate ownership reversions based upon cumulative net cash flow
  • Creat multi-level summaries
  • Use of multiple engineering correlation calculators
  • Analyze P/Z versus cumulative production data
  • Forecast gas production using a multi-well P/Z model

Log Analysis - A cost effective and practical tool for real time, interactive analysis of both old log suites and the latest generation of logging measurements. Spreadsheets database and graphic features allow both rapid interaction and comparative evaluation of multiple interpretations or best case/worst caseextremes. In addition, multiple wells and zones are easily managed.

Pipes Database - Contains complete datanases of API-5D drill pipes.

Fluid Properties - Contains a database of gas and liquid physical properties & energy reference values.

Units Conversion - Contains over 400 conversions for English, metric units, and international (SI) standards.

Drawing Module - Visio Technical with drag-and-drop ease and a pre-integrated set of down-hole petroleum engineering templates or shapes for design.

Regulations and Reporting Forms Library:

MMS Offshore Regulations - Regulations covering oil and gas mineral
operations in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic and Pacific Continental Shelf.
Texas State Rules - All rules/forms with statewide general application
to oil, gas and geothermal resource operations within the state of Texas.

Calculations Utilities - 35 spreadsheets covering gas lift design, artificial lift method, beam pump design, gas flow, IPR calculations, oil well hydraulics, cementing, and other production-related utilities.

Graphic/Math Calculator - A Powerful, intuitive way to perform simple and complex mathematical tasks including 2D/3D graphing, Advanced numerical methods, solving equations, etc.

A PC software program that is used by pipeline operators to evaluate the remaining strength of externally corroded pipe. RSTRENG was initially released in 1989. It was enhanced in 1993 with options added to make the software more versatile and user-friendly. Technical Toolboxes has redesigned the RSTRENG user interface and upgraded the software to an intuitive, 32-bit program that will run under all Windows9x/NT/2000/XP platforms.

Pipeline operators are required under 49CFR192 and 49CFR195 to use
either the RSTRENG or ASME/ANSI B31G criterion to evaluate remaining
strength of corroded pipe.

RSTRENG V3.0 is the latest version of the RSTRENG software. It will work
on all Windows-based PCs and allows the user to use any combination of
English or Metric units. It also includes all supporting RSTRENG technical
research documents in PDF format.

Detailed features include:

Ability to import data from Excel©
Windows 2000/XP compatible
Electronic searchable library of technical reports including:
